Birthday Giveaway and Sale

It's my birthday! And since birthdays call for celebration, I'm having a little giveaway—and a sale, too.

First, the sale: Today only in my Ravelry store, use the coupon code BIRTHDAY to get 30% off individual patterns (ebooks excluded). This will be my last sale in a while, so it's a great opportunity to stock up. You can use the code as often as you like. The sale ends at midnight EST tonight. (Unfortunately, due to new EU VAT regulations, this promotion is not available to EU customers.)

Second, the giveaway: Since garnet is the birthstone for January, I'm giving away this beautiful skein of Periwinkle Sheep Watercolors II yarn—400 yards of fingering weight merino—in the Shields of Garnet colorway.

I'm also giving away a project bag that I made using natural linen and cotton fabrics. It's the perfect size for small to medium projects like shawls, scarves, hats, or socks. (The needles are not part of the giveaway—they're just props.)

There are two ways to enter: 1) Leave a comment on this post telling one thing you like about January. To me, January is one of the dreariest months of the year, so it helps to be reminded of the positive things about it. 2) If you haven't already, join the Blue Peninsula group on Ravelry. Do both to increase your chances of winning!

On Friday, I'll use a random number generator to draw one name from among the blog comments for one of the prizes, and one name from among the Blue Peninsula group members (everybody, new and old) for the other prize. If you're leaving a comment, please mention your Ravelry username or another way to contact you.

Good luck—and thank you for stopping by!

Oooo...I think I'm the first to comment! I love January because there is always snow in January and I love snow. Also, my first born has a birthday in January, too...the 22nd. She'll be 21 this year. When did THAT happen?! Happy Birthday to you, Bonnie and thanks for the contest and pattern discount.

Happy Birthday, Bonnie! I hope it's a fantastic year for you, full of creativity, health, wealth and lots of laughs!
My favorite thing about January is the sense of a fresh start. Putting away Holiday clutter- space clearing. Thinking of new goals- beginners mind. Starting new projects- new opportunities. It all seems more significant in Jan, fresh starts. And the citrus fruit is pretty great too. :)

Happy Birthday! I, too, am a January baby. The best thing I can say about January (other than that it has the prettiest birthstone) is that by the end of the month, the days are MUCH longer and lighter than they were at the beginning of the month! Thanks for sharing your birthday with us.

Happy birthday! Love your designs (and bought the Couplet pattern as I've been eyeing the socks for a couple weeks)
I love January because the holidays are over and I can play catch up with the WIPs I had to abandon in my procrastination-based panic last month :)

Happy Birthday, Bonnie! I hope you have a wonderful year.

My favorite thing about January here in the Pacific Northwest is that we often will get a break from the rain, rain, rain of December. Instead, we get clear, cold days with blue skies and sunshine. Also, toward the end of the month, we start to see crocuses poking through the ground.

Happy Birthday, Bonnie! My cousin's birthday is today as well and I just got done wishing her a happy day as well.

Overall, I don't mind January. The days get longer, a little more daylight every day. I figure we are nearing the upswing that we have passed the halfway mark of winter. Today as I write this, it is gently snowing outside. Quiet. Still. Pretty.

Love your designs, Bonnie. Continued health, happiness and happy creating to you!

Happy Birthday! I hope you have a lovely day. :)

January is nice because after New Year's there aren't any BIG holidays and you can rest and rejuvenate. Also, we're enough past solstice that you can actually tell that the days are getting longer again & we're getting more light. --MissNations on Rav

Happy birthday, I hope you have a great day. I love January, holidays are over so I can take a deep breath and recharge. The weather has changed. It's snowing! Bundling up in a handmade blanket in front of a fire and knitting is one of my favorite things. Plus, it's the month of my youngest son's birthday which is always a reason to love January.

My favorite things about January are sitting back and enjoying the "no-pressure" of my knitting, the days are considerably cooler here in Arizona (60's & 70's), and getting a little bit organized around here! Also, our orange, lemon and lime trees are giving us some wonderful fruit!!!!

What a wonderful month to be born in. Like you I think January is so fresh and new. It is a month where it feels all things wonderful can happen.
In addition, while the holidays are great, they are over and it is an easier month to organize your life from all the chaos.

Happy Birthday to you! I hope you had an enjoyable day.

What do I love about January? Well, all the nifty folks I know born this month, be they Capricorns or Aquarians (like myself). I also think that our birthstone is the prettiest, and not just because it goes so well with my complexion.

Then there's the increased daylight time. Already, this is noticeable in my neck of the woods. I believe that we've gained something like 1/2 an hour of light since the solstice? The sun will give me the gift of nearly an hour more of its presence on my Birthday, the 31st.

Again, best wishes!

January is a special month in our family as my older son & older daughter were born in January as well as my husband, his mother & 2 of his sisters...WOW! I know! So we often have a BIG get together to celebrate all the special people of January. It also gives me a chance to catch up on after Christmas knitting to give birthday gifts this month.

Happy Birthday Bonnie! What I love about January, even though it is -40 here today where I live, is that I spend more time inside being cozy and knitting, and I get to wear all my hand knits! Thanks for the coupon code, and for the chance to win the lovely yarn and one of your beautiful project bags. :) I will make sure and buy a pattern, but I will have to make it after I finish my Pomegranate for the BP Selfish KAL first!

I'm not really crazy about January. It tends to be dark and gloomy here in Oregon. The one good thing I can say about January is that the days are getting longer. Not quickly enough to suit me, but at least they are.

Shelda said...

Hope you're having a great birthday, Bonnie! Seems like the gifts are all for us.

I really love the self-reflection that seems to happen every January, thinking through the old year, making plans foe the new. And I love the light in January: that cold shimmery "winterness" of it all. And the fact that the days are already getting lighter for longer. I noticed this morning how much lighter it was than a week ago. There's still a lot of cold to come, but the wheel will turn...

Happy Birthday!

January is when the snow starts and since we live in the San Francisco Bay Area we get to opt in to the snow by driving to Tahoe. It's always a shlep but my son loves to ski more than life itself and starts counting the days till slope-time in August. January reminds me to plant the seeds that will bear fruit in the summer.

Happy Birthday Bonnie!
I live in Iowa and January can be a challenging month. I have learned over the years to use the month to hibernate and do some sorting and clearing of my "stuff". I also use the time indoors to do an assessment of my life and again, sorting and clearing. And, of course, I spend even more time knitting!

I love January because to me it signifies a fresh start....fresh white snow or depending where you live, rain to wash away the old and bring in the new. It's a time of rest and contemplation of what is to come.
