Button, Button

New electronic gadgets sometimes lead to new crafting projects ... my iPad Mini now has its very own upcycled jacket:

New Button_2

New Button_1
Pattern: none (I improvised)
Materials: an old pair of linen overalls (for the outside); a scrap of Lotta Jansdotter fabric (for the pocket); a black-and-white cotton/rayon skirt (for the lining); a vintage button; black elastic; cotton batting (for padding)

The pocket is just the right size for a small sketchbook and pencils/pens. Tools for drawing, photography, writing, even video all contained in one lightweight, easy-to-carry case—makes me very happy!

A big thank-you to my sister Jackie, who passed along to me the blue-green linen overalls a friend gave her. She thought I'd use the fabric for something—and she was right.

I've already changed up the button once. I think I like the smaller brown one better than the milky orange one. But I can easily change it again. I have lots to choose from thanks to Tekla, who recently left a wonderful surprise on my desk—a Ziploc bag full of buttons from the Mount Holyoke theatre department tag sale.

Whenever I sew something for me, I make something for Snickers, too. This time she got a Lotta Jansdotter catnip pillow toy:

If you live in the Pioneer Valley and are looking for some creative upcycled gifts, don't miss the Knack holiday pop-up shop. Items for your home, jewelry, accessories, furniture, and more—all handmade from reused materials by local artisans—will be at Signature Sounds in Northampton on six Saturdays in November and December. I'm not participating but I look forward to doing some shopping!

I love your new cover, the buttons, the reused fabric. All wonderful. And Snickers got such a nice catnip pillow, too! Alas, no photo. : )

Way to go on the Begin Again piece?

Love the materials you used on both items. So creative! I need to get a sewing machine...
