Forecast: Buttermilk Skies and Free Yarn

In the next week or so, I'll be releasing a new pattern called Buttermilk Sky. It's for an accessory that can be knit in one of two ways--in DK weight yarn or worsted weight. The pattern's been edited, and the samples are knit--all that remains is a photo shoot.

That's all I'll say about it for now, except to tell you that one of the samples was knit with Blue Sky Alpaca Silk in the Ice colorway:

Blue Sky Alpaca Silk Ice

Isn't it lovely? If you'd like to win this skein and a copy of the Buttermilk Sky pattern, just leave a comment telling which of your current WIPS you plan to finish first, and why. I'll pick a name at random and announce the winner in my next post, when I'll also unveil the pattern.

In the meantime, here's one of my WIPS, a Kushu Kushu Scarf knit with Habu wool/stainless steel yarn. I'm intrigued by how different it can look depending on the light and time of day.

Kushu Kushu Morning Light
Kushu Kushu Dramatic Light
Kushu Kushu Soft Light

This isn't the WIP I plan to finish first--I think that would be either my Margot sweater (because I'd really love to be wearing it) or a pair of stockinette socks. The socks might be the next FO simply because they are both at the toe decreases. We'll see! In recent weeks, I've been focused on a couple of new designs. Now that they're finished, it's nice to give more attention to my personal knitting projects.

fascinating scarf photos!! FO I plan to finish first: Central Park Hoodie for my daughter's b'day, which is today. Alas, the CPH will not be finished today :(

The Habu scarf is looking beautiful! For my WIPS, I'm planning on finishing first: a pair of Selbuvotter intended for a Christmas gift, but since I always procrastinate on finishing thumbs, I don't know if that will happen!

I love the color of the Blue Sky yarn. I'm working on a pair of socks my mom saw and asked for, as well as a black scarf for her to add to a new outfit. Not too much!

FO I plan to finish first is my Acer sweater. I am making it out of some very rustic yarn which came to me from my Dad's flock of sheep several years ago. I attempted to dye it dark brown last spring. While the yarn didn't dye as evenly as I had hoped it would, the color is really nice and it is knitting up into a great heavy wool sweater. I would love to make Buttermilk Skies.

Oohh! I can't wait to see your new pattern!

Let's see, of my WIP's, the one that I plan on finishing first is my Prairy Rose Shawl. I'm making it with Dream in Color Baby in the November Muse colorway. I started it on Saturday because I needed a lace project to distract me from a stressful day, and it did the trick. It's going very quickly, and I'm very much in love with it, and so I can't wait to finish! I am making it a bit bigger than it is supposed to be (I like generous shawls), but I still think I can finish it by the end of the week at the latest.

Oh, and I also am going to try to finish up some little mini-socks this week as well. I don't really consider them WIP's because they are so quick, and because I'm always making them...but they do amuse!

I plan to next finish 2 baby sweaters. They are for twin boys. The shower is in 5 days! That Alpaca look heavenly. And I can't wait till you finish the steel project. Kntting with wire is going to suck me in yet! Looking forward to seeing your new dsign.

I love that colorway!

My wip being finished is Estonian Lace Flower Shawl in Rowan Cashsoft in black....after the Maid of Honor saw the bride's in white, she "begged" me to make one for her in black...I'm about 3/4's of the way done..

I've got only one WIP at the moment, so that's the one I'll be finishing. It's a top-down cardi for myself, using Schachenmayr Ego Tweed (great sale at Webs). Looking forward to seeing your new design!

I'm fascinated by the Habu. I'm hoping to not get distracted and finish up the Alieta Shell....it's been a long time since I started it!

It's amazing how the Kusha Kusha scarf changes--that's in my queue! I am planning on finishing my Serpentine Socks first--my first time knitting with Mountain Colors Bearfoot and I am in love!

I'm going to buckle down and finish my Lily of the Valley scarf. I don't know why I'm having such a difficult sticking with this as I'm using a yummy cashmere; my first time ever knitting with 100% cashmere.

My WIP(s) to finish are lace scarfs for Holiday gifts - one of which will be your Kernal Lace Scarf! I am currently loving the silk/merino yarns that I get to work with! Tammy M

I plan to finish the infinity scarf I just started for my daughter, then onto Sylvi (which has been on the needles for close to a year - yikes). As much as I am immediately drawn to multi colored yarn (with colors that I love, of course), the best, and my absolute favorites are the soft, cream or natural colors.

p.s. Looking forward to your new design!

I have only two things currently on the needles: Anne Hanson's Twinings shawl, and a pair of Bella Mittens. I will be finishing the mittens first as I only have one thumb to complete.

The skein of Blue Sky is absolutely lovely!

I'll be finishing up my Thermal sweater after it has lounged on the needles for two years! I hope to finish it this week.

The Habu scarf is quite interesting. Very sculptural.
As for my WIPs... the one I'm planning on finishing first is my 'Pretty Things' neckwarmer. I treated myself to some yummy yarn and then patiently waited to cast on until I had a couple of other projects off the needles. Now it's all Pretty Thing all the time. And since it's a neckwarmer, it'll be done in no time. Maybe tomorrow!
Then I'd be very happy to knit the Buttermilk Skies in that lovely Blue Sky Alpaca Silk!!

I love the color of that yarn--buttermilk is the right word.

The project I plan to finish first is my Drift cardigan, which I'm knitting all in one piece. I expect to finish it first because I'm nearly done with the body, though it might take longer if I have to rip and reknit (this is my first attempt at seamless set-in sleeves).

The stainless steel yarn is intriguing.

Anyway, I'll finish the Quincy hat first, because it's a knitalong with my knit group. Gotta stay one step ahead, since it was my idea to do this one!

Can't wait for the reveal! (My next FO should be the "french vanilla" ishbel for my cousin's daughter, Kate.)

Robin said...

P.S. The "why" for the ishbel (above comment)is b/c it's the smallest project I have going right now!

I'm planning on finishing my lacy baktus first. Great scarf photos!

I plan to completely finish the Ishbel Shawl for my aunt before the end of the week. All that's left to do is the blocking part, though I can't seem to motivate myself to do it!

That Blue Sky Alpaca Silk looks lovely! Can't wait to see your new pattern.

Mittens--I am making mittens for my cousin's three kids, it is traditon. This year, I made a pair for her too as a suprise! I have one pair left to make!

The FO I plan to finish first is the second "Mystery 09 Through the Loops" sock. I've been on a "sock kick" for the past month or so. I'm wearing more and more of my handknitted socks - what a luxury!
I'm sure your new pattern will be lovely as always!

The WIP that I plan to finish first is the Cashmere Neck Warmer, which in this case is being knit up in Pure Merino instead of cashmere. I want to finish it soon because, if I like the results, it will be the prototype for several holiday gifts for my daughter's dance teachers.

I think your scarf is amazing!

I won't enumerate my UFO's because it would be too embarrassing. But the one I HAVE TO finish first is the Wings of Desire scarf I am making for a friend's birthday next week. Then I hope to finish the Masked Ball in Venice shawl, which has a mere 8 rows to go. (Should I mention that each row now has over 1,000 stitches?)

It really is amazing how different that Habu scarf looks in different light! Fun.

I *should* finish my Daybreak shawl next, because it's for a friend, and well, I just should.

But I keep finding myself knitting on my socks. Maybe tonight will be for getting back into Daybreak. I have to remind myself that the thing you work on is what gets finished! (amazing how *often* I have to remind myself of that!)

Can't wait to see pictures, the yarn sure is dreamy!
I bought a couple of cones of the Habu and can't wait to try it. It's so much fun -- yarn, but with metal, so cool!

Otter (SkyNorth on Ravelry) said...

The 'steel' yarn looks amazing; hard to believe the different photo are all the same yarn!
I have a few WIPs at present - I am still working on Kernel, knitting it with the fabulous Mini Maiden I won on this very blog!!
I'm also about 30 rows into Cold Mountain, des.Kieran Foley, whih is amazingly gorgeous, very geometric, which I love and also reminiscent of Alaskan lace and also Shetland lace. I'm knitting it one pattern repeat narrower to make a scarf rather than the wider wrap, because i love to have lots of scarves to brighten up a basic wardrobe in winter.
It really is a toss-up which one I would prefer to finish first, but I know it will be Kernel, simply because I am further on with it and it's a lot easier and quicker to knit because of the easy-to-memorize pattern and the yarn is easier to see against my KnitPicks tips!
I an't wait for the new pattern Bonnie!
Best wishes from Otter

I'm so intrigued by that scarf -- can't wait to see it finished. The WIP I plan to finish first is the bearded cap (by v. vine on Ravelry). It's a special request from a guy I work with who happens to be bald. I'm knitting it in chocolate brown and hoping it looks like he's got his hair back!

Lovely stuff!
I plan to finish the mock cable socks that are a holiday gift, but THEN I want to finish my Rowan 46 Helsinki Hat Scarf! It's been OTN way too long. Pulled it out and just fell under it's spell again as I knit away on those cables.
(((hugs)))

Well, unfortunately I have lots of unfinished socks...got bored with the knitting of them but they are too far along to rip out...so, someday I will get to them. At the moment, I just started a Girl Friday with Cascade Lana D'Oro and I am loving the yarn. I think I will try to get that sweater done asap so I can wear it.
Love your Habu scarf, but I think the knitting of it would be frustrating...I'm looking forward to seeing how yours turns out.

I love the Blue Sky...it actually feels like butter...pure heaven! I'm trying to finish a prayer shawl (Swallowtail) for my son-in-law's mom who is fighting a huge battle with breast cancer.

Thank you for your generous spirit...it's greatly appreciated by many!

My current WIP has a deadline - my wonderful friend's birthday is next Thursday and I am knitting a scarf now and plan to add a warm matching headband and mitts. She appreciates handknits so it is as much a gift for me as it is for her.

I cannot wait for your pattern to be released. Can we buy it through ravelry? I have tons of DK, and creamy too!

Contemplating my WIPs and UFOs - newly started, an Estonian lace shawl in Zephyr - I'm addicted, but it's not likely to be first finished. A Helmet Liner for one of Our Boys Over There, in Cascade Superwash - a possible candidate. Soap Sack and Washcloth for a grandchild, in neon green Cotton Tots - this one will win the race!

I'd be interested to know how you find knitting with wool/stainless steel yarn, and what it feels like against the skin! It sounds like such a weird combination.

I plan to finish a pair of plain socks (magic cast on toe, shortrow heel) first, to free up my needles for Christmas knitting. They make for great stress-relief, though I dearly want to finish my version of Suzyn Jackson's T3!
